• I have been writing histories and feature articles for newspapers during the last three decades.
• I have written much of the publicity for our local rodeos, since first serving as secretary in 1982.
• I am also a photo-journalist with an extensive portfolio of photos published since 1976. |
How it started:
Actually, it was as a senior at Etna High School, when instructor Al Kiep took on the brave task of guiding the 1973 yearbook class. This included putting together a newspaper each week, the old-fashioned way without computers, and we had a photography room. I learned how to take, develop and print photos. The bug for writing and photography bit me and I have never stopped. Thank you Mr. Kiep.

I
was a young married gal when in 1976, the publisher of Pioneer Press took a chance on me. I began compiling a page on agriculture including photos and covering local meetings and issues.
So, I have been writing about other people and their lives, passions, talents and desires ever since. There have been several other newspapers for which I wrote, but I started and ended, in 2006, my newspaper career with the Pioneer Press. |
Integrity and getting it right were my driving forces through 30 years of writing articles and eventually serving as editor of the agriculture publication Siskiyou Rancher.
My favorite writing has always been features about individuals. People are so incredible! Everyone has a story worth telling and I enjoy telling it.

Gardening is a favorite activity. Guess I like to see things grow and love the color of flowers. Picking and harvesting is work, but I do it because one just can't let the produce go to waste. Plus it does taste good, when the cold winter wind blows.
I live with my husband, Jack, of 35 years. Yep, can't believe we made it this long and, nope, it wasn't easy, at least not for him! We have two grown sons. One is married with three children and they live at the northern end of our Scott Valley. The other son works for a survey company in Utah and was married on December 3, 2009.
We live at the southern-end of Scott Valley in Siskiyou County -- the very top of the State of California. The nearest town is Callahan with a population of 50 about two miles away. |
